On September 22, the planned annual overhaul of the sixth reactor of Kozloduy NPP began. The planned repairs, maintenance of the equipment and systems of the unit will be performed. The reactor will be refueled with fresh nuclear fuel for the next, 26th fuel cycle. The implementation of activities and modifications related to the long-term operation of the unit will continue. The repair will be carried out in strict compliance with the measures to limit the risk of infection with COVID-19.
Admission to the workplaces is carried out after control of body temperature. Personal protective equipment must be used during work, work and sanitary facilities are regularly disinfected and high hygiene is constantly maintained. Changes have been made in the organization of the working hours of the shift staff, aimed at limiting contacts and maintaining social distance. External companies will also take part in the repair campaign as subcontractors. Their employees, who do not have a permanent job on the site, will be admitted to the facility upon verification of a negative PCR test.
The aim is to protect the health of workers, ensure the safe operation of nuclear facilities and continue the reliable and stable energy supplies in the coming autumn-winter period. The planned annual overhaul is expected to be completed on October 24, 2020. The fifth unit of the plant is operating at full capacity.
