For a consecutive year the Association of traders with electricity in Bulgaria will be a partner organization of the event Balkan Energy Finance Forum, which brings together top energy experts from the SEE region. This year’s event will take place in Metropol Palace, Belgrade between 4 – 5 of December 2017 and fill focus mainly on renewable energy technologies, their development in SEE, investments and future perspectives.
Electricity production in the Western Balkans at the moment is mostly dependent on coal. Despite the fact all Balkan countries have shown a strong commitment to boost their quota of renewable energy sources by 2020, to reach between 25% and 40% of their energy mix, coal-fired thermal power plants still play the key role in generating the countries’ energy. Despite improvements in policy and regulatory frameworks, the region is still facing challenges in attracting more investments than fossil energy projects and blocking the full transition to renewable energy and energy efficiency.
But Balkan renewable energy sets to grow. Unquestionably, the region has high potential for deployment of energy production from renewable sources including water, wind or bioenergy. Thus, against the background of competitive traditional energy price levels, how is the SEE’s renewable market going to shape up in the nearest future to stay competitive? What are the critical elements to mobilize more finance in the region? These are the key questions that we will try to address in hte 10th edition of the Balkan Energy Finance Forum.
Main topics also include:
- What are the SEE Governments commitments for renewable energy development?
- Institutional, regulatory and financial constraints
- What factors are holding back the progress of renewable energy deployment in the region?
- Opportunities for renewable energy growth in SEE countries
- Investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects
- Deployment of renewable energy technologies
- Turn-key solutions for renewable energy
