As a result of the implementation of energy saving measures in all sectors of the economy, as well as the contribution of all obliged parties, for the period 2014-2020 in Bulgaria 7,992.7 GWh of energy were saved. Thus, the country has fulfilled 96% of its national target for energy savings by 2020. Additional energy savings will be achieved by energy efficiency measures implemented in 2020, the full effect of which will be reported later. This is recorded in the annual report on the implementation in 2020 of the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency 2014-2020, approved by the Council of Ministers.
The report contains basic statistical information, analyzing the state and trends of energy efficiency at the national level in 2019 – the last year for which there are official statistics. The individual sectors of the economy are considered, reflecting the changes in the main indicators – gross value added, energy consumption and energy intensity, and for the sectors with stable or increasing consumption is made additional analysis investing the reasons for unchanged or increased energy consumption.
The annual report contains an overview of the results under the individual targets for energy savings of building owners and owners of industrial systems, as well as the implementation of the Energy efficiency obligation scheme, introduced in accordance with the requirements of Art. 7 of Directive 2012/27 / EU – the implementation of measures to increase energy efficiency by energy traders and alternative measures in force in 2020.
