In the presence of the Prime Ministers Boyko Borissov and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Executive Director of Bulgartransgaz EAD Vladimir Malinov signed the agreement for purchase of shares from the capital of Gastrade SA with Asimina – Eleni Kopeluzu, who is a major shareholder in the company.
The press service of the Council of Ministers clarified that another agreement has been signed between the project company Gastrade SA, Bulgartransgaz and the other shareholders – the Greek state company DEPA Commercial SA. and Gaslog Cyprus Investments Ltd., which is one of the largest international companies owning LNG tankers.
The finalized documents are the last stage of the process by which Bulgartransgaz EAD becomes an equal shareholder in the project for a liquefied natural gas terminal pursuant to the decision of the Council of Ministers of January 2020 and the concluded preliminary contract for purchase and sale of 20% of the capital of Gastrade S.A.
The ceremony in Athens was also attended by Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and Greek Environment and Energy Minister Kostis Hatzidakis.
The terminal near Alexandroupolis will be the second LNG facility in the region, after the one in Revitusa, Greece, to which Bulgaria has access. A modern high-tech floating terminal for reception, storage and regasification of liquefied natural gas will be built. The planned capacity of the terminal for regasification and supply to the gas transmission network of Greece amounts to 6.1 billion m3 per year. The storage capacity is 170 thousand m³ of liquefied natural gas. The commercial operation of the facility is planned to start by the end of 2022.
