Compensation of the network operators for the purchased electricity to cover network losses will continue until the end of March 2022. This was decided by the government by adopting changes to the program to compensate the costs of transmission and distribution system operators. By law, these companies purchase the electricity needed to cover their technological losses only from the power exchange.
With a previous decision from the end of last year, the government approved compensation of network operators for their technological losses in full for the period July-December 2021. According to the current decision applicable for the period January – March the network operators will receive from the state the difference between IBEX’s price and the reference price determined by the regulator.
The financial resources for the programme are 221 BGN million and are provided by the Security of the electricity system fund (SESF). The payment of the funds under the programme is made under an Agreement between the Ministry of Energy and SESF. According to the signed agreement, the Ministry of Energy will notify the SESF for the amount of compensation due and the SESF will make the payment to the specific network operator within 3 days of receiving the notification.
