ATEB called for a working group on liberalisation at the Powers Summit 2024

Valeri Drenikov, Deputy Chairman of the Association of  Traders with Energy in Bulgaria, proposed to create a working group with the participation of all stakeholders on the full liberalization of the energy market during the fourth edition of the Powers Summit forum, which brought together representatives of the government, political parties and business to discuss the main challenges and opportunities for Bulgaria. The event took place at Sofia Tech Park on 10 December 2024.

In Drenikov’s words, “it is absolutely necessary that Bulgaria stops pursuing social policy through the energy sector, and the liberalisation of the market should involve a wide range of experts – representatives of all market participants, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Social Policy. Our proposal is to create a working group so that everyone can express their position on the liberalisation process and formulate both a short-term and a long-term vision,” he urged.

The Summit called for three key priorities:

1. Developing and introducing regulatory incentives for innovative energy technologies.
2. Transposing Directive 1711/2024 to improve the electricity market structure.
3. Establishing an expert working group under the Council of Ministers to ensure full liberalisation of the electricity market and consumer protection.

The representatives of the parliamentary groups confirmed their commitment to these priorities.
