An article published in 3e-news draws attention to the Prime Minister’s statement that in case of suspension of gas supplies from Russia, the government is ready with measures including suspending the export of electricity.
Bulgaria receives natural gas from a pipeline that also supplies Serbia. As a result, it is unlikely to cut off natural gas supplies from Russia. If we enter a scenario in which Russia stops supplying gas to Bulgaria, the government will limit the export of electricity, it became evident from the words of the Prime Minister. This will be our measure. But the good news for us is that the pipeline that transports to Bulgaria is the pipeline that feeds Serbia and Hungary, which are Russia’s strategic partners, Petkov said. Petkov meant the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, which supplies around 70% of the natural gas consumed in Bulgaria. The continuation of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline in Bulgaria is known as the Balkan Stream. It is through this pipeline that Russia supplies significant quantities of natural gas to Serbia and Hungary.
Regarding the crisis with Ukraine, Bulgaria is a clear partner of the EU and NATO, we speak with one voice, there will be no deviations. We are supporting the sanctions and at the same time we are preparing to have an option not to run out of energy sources. Our country has a plan B for this purpose, Petkov explained. “We are protecting the Bulgarian interest, but we are working with the union”, said the Prime Minister.
