The National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) of Bulgaria has been developed in compliance with the provision of Art. 3 of Regulation (EU) 2018/1999 on Energy Union governance and climate action.
The document defines the main trends and policies in the field of energy security, energy efficiency, liberalization of the electricity market and its integration into the Common European Energy Market, development and expansion of the gas market, as well as the opportunities to exploit new high-efficiency energy technologies.
The Integrated Plan foresees the prospect that coal power plants will be the main base capacity in the Bulgarian electricity sector by 2030 with a horizon of 2050.
The plan`s objective of achieving at least 15% interconnection will help to establish a common market for electricity.
The full liberalization of the electricity market should be a fact by 2025, the plan says. The process will be accompanied by the introduction of measures to protect vulnerable consumers.
The document sets a share of 27% on renewable energy in the total energy mix by 2030.
