Cap prices for offers on the balancing market

The regulator has adopted a decision setting cap prices for balancing energy offers. For the provision of a system service for upward regulation is the cap is set at DAM + 100 BGN, where the DAM is the hourly price on the day-ahead market of IBEX. Linking the price cap to the hourly prices of the day-ahead market ensures that the price is high enough every hour so as not to encourage market participants to be deliberately in shortage, which jeopardizes the security of the electricity system.

The cap price for offers for the provision of a downward regulation service is 30% * DAM, where DAM is equal to the hourly price on the day-ahead market of IBEX EAD, but not higher than the regulated price of HPPs owned by NEK. The aim is to prevent balancing energy suppliers from incurring financial losses from their participation on the balancing market.

The new cap prices come into force on January 1, 2022.
