The parliament has provided an option to postpone the regulator`s decision on new electricity prices for up to two months. The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) could postpone its decision on new electricity prices by up to two months, parliament decided. The proposal was made by the Chairman of the Energy Commission – Valentin Nikolov in the Transitional and Final Provisions in the Health Act.
The specific wording is:
§11a (1) In order to ensure energy security, the price/regulatory period ending on 30 June 2020 for the prices of the companies in the “Electricity” sector may be extended for a period of up to two months from the date of expiry of the current period.
(2) Upon prolongation of the period under par. 1 The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission shall approve the price applications submitted by the energy companies until this Act comes into force.
At the moment, the EWRC is expected not to take advantage of this option, because all procedures are currently progressing in accordance with the normal deadlines so that the new price decision is expected to be be issued on July 1, 2020.
