On 27th of October the planned renovation of the sixth reactor of NPP “Kozloduy” was completed. The reactor was launched in parallel with the electricity system of the country in 18:04. It started operation after a security check and approval of the Nuclear regulatory agency.
In the period during the renovation, which started on 5th of September, all the necessary repairs and monitoring activities were performed as well as maintenance of the equipment and the systems including 7000 single units of equipment. The reactor is recharged with fresh nuclear fuel for the next period of operation.
During the planned annual repair of the sixth nuclear reactor a series of important renovation and modernization activities were performed towards an extension of the exploitation lifetime and towards an increase in the thermal capacity of the reactor to 104%. A major operation during the repairs was the installation of a new stator of the turbo generator. The stator weights 370 tonnes and it is the heaviest single equipment in the nuclear power plant (NPP). All the work during the change of the stator was performed and completed on schedule.
The registered deviation of the turbo generator from its default parameters, found during the tests on 21st of October, was successfully removed with assistance from specialist of the manufacturing company. The second series of tests showed good results.
The other 1000 MW nuclear reactor in NPP Kozloduy works on full load.
